What you didn’t know about coffee: Asher Yaron at TEDxUbud

Legendary Entrepreneurs Show You How to Start, Launch & Grow a Digital Business… Click here!

After several trips to Bali, Asher Yaron finally decided to move there and follow his desire to create a local, organic, sustainable business.

With Balinese coffee farmer friend I Nyoman Wirata, Asher created F.R.E.A.K., that is, "Fresh Roasted Enak (delicious in Indonesian) Arabica from Kintamani," which is involved in all aspects of the coffee business "from the cherry to the cup." Asher also has plans to use pure spring water from Kintamani to further improve the flavor of their coffee and return a percentage of the profits to community projects in the Kintamani region. Asher's upcoming venture: Coffee University.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

I’ve been roasting coffee since 2001 have 16 ounces a day. I did it because it tasted way better than anything I could buy and a lot less acid.

  2. watched this on 1.5x speed. So much better.

I remember staying in my aunt’s house when I was a child, and the smell of fresh roasted coffee that she use to roast in her backyard will stay with me forever, not of course to talk about the taste of fresh roasted coffee that by the way she had harvested from her own small coffee plantation! Wow! Thank you so much for the talk!

  4. Subhash Dendukuri sagt:

hope all the folks present there would have had a sample to know the difference… especially after such a long tease…

    Isn’t a bean a seed…?

Duh… I feel less inteligente after this Talk… Coffee is linked to Alzheimer and this guy is just a salesman.

  7. This presentation is pointless. Don’t waste your time because he doesn’t have any information. He keeps searching for things to say about its benefits, but cant give you anything.

I use a bread machine and a heat gun to roast. The bread machine was $7 from Goodwill. The 1,500 Watt heat gun was $10 from Harbor Freight. I cool the beans in a pair of hemispheric screen colanders held together so that the beans do not fall out when I rotate the tool. Simple, cheap, effective.

Why are Ted Talks starting to be infomercials for guys trying to make a buck? I didn’t see any other comments before posting and it’s nice to see I’m not alone. TedX has sold out.

But then he starts selling his roaster and I’m out

  12. Also I’d like to add that a new tub of coffee is better than when it is old

  13. Lars van de Goor sagt:

Besides he is presenting it like having one cup of coffee too many, what an anti climax when the machine is presented

  14. juntjoo nunya sagt:

What’s he talking about? My frozen months old beans hit me like diet crack every time, 4 hours minimum

Coffee is dangerous to us because it’s strong and very addictive. It affects the brain and lowers the blood flow to dangerously low levels thus creating headaces. It makes one hyperactive and can be harmful to people with heart conditions. The energy from caffeine is not long lasting and makes you tired in the long run.

First, let’s just get the restaurants to heat the cream like they do in Italy.

  17. actually best to consume immediately after roasting, don’t wait!

  18. Tal Rasha sagt:

Summary: Roast your coffe by yourself, drink within 7 days of roasting

  19. Simon Banks sagt:

To be fair he mentions a lot of different ways to roast coffee for ‚free‘ and says they are good methods before he ‚advertises‘ his product. The haters say he is just a charlatan but I’ll still be roasting my coffee in a pan from now on. Probably is better that way. Must be better fresh than processed and it might be cheaper that way too

All I know is that I made a remark you that you choose to comment on and now can not stop taking it personally. Your wild guess would be very wrong. Obviously, you do not understand the human body regardless of what you did or what classes you took. Please stop harassing my space. You do not act like an intelligent person, you are reacting like an insecure person unwilling to accept that people other than you have right knowledge. With that said, I simply do not want your toxic energy even in my notifications. I’ll find out how to report you to You Tube if you continue to harass me with your childish reactions. What you think of me is none of my business and if you had any intelligence, you would just stop and think about how rude you act and basically, grow up.

  21. Just because it has a certain effect on you, you automatically conclude it does the same thing for the entire human population on the planet? I’ll take a wild guess that you never took a science class.

You are the one who commented on my post. I told you the truth. You are hostile and defensive. I will not waste time responding to this again. My information is all correct. You must be trying to make money and are trying to convince people of a non-truth. From now on, your input is „deleted.“ Be well.

  23. I am an athlete and have a raw food background, don’t lecture me about the human body, my body. You have your own experience which is unique to you, we are all different and react differently to different things. I believe in what HIppocrates said: „Let food be thy medicine and medicine thy food“.
Hundreds of millions of people drink coffee every day, I am helping many of them have the best coffee experience possible by creating the purest, most potent, and healthiest form of this magical, mystical, and sacred beverage.

I tired different types over my life at different places, the effect is the same regardless. It is a drug. Most people build up a tolerance for it, just as they do for alcohol or other drugs. I have a pure system in that I never did drugs and never liked alcohol. Coffee tastes bitter and people basically use it to feel up, because it is stimulates the system. My system runs in a healthy and natural rhythm and therefore, my body does not want it. Why would people need to drink it? It’s not a food and water is the best liquid for the body! After the symptoms you just listed, it’s the exact same thing as the warning labels on drugs that doctor’s give. It’s simply not good for the body. FYI. Coffee creates an acidic environment in the body, again…it’s not healthy. You can defend it and try to justify it all you want to, it still does not make you correct. It’s the same as saying, oh, just do a little pure coke or heroine and it won’t hurt you. And if you’re hearing it a lot, from different people, why don’t you listen to what they are telling you? Just because you are addicted to it, doesn’t make it good for you. You need a real education about the human body!

  25. M & M's Web Show sagt:

Coffee has always given me heart palpitations, and I have always been healthy. It’s the only thing that ever hurt me that was supposed to be a safe drink. So It raises blood pressure and the body doesn’t need that. Eat veggies and exercise. You’ll have all the energy you need. Coffee is a drug.
