The Muslim on the airplane | Amal Kassir | TEDxMileHighWomen

Legendary Entrepreneurs Show You How to Start, Launch & Grow a Digital Business… Click here!

Watching the news, it seems like ethnic divides are ever-deepening. But how can we solve these complicated problems when each side lives in fear of the other? The answer is simple, argues Syrian-American poet Amal Kassir – it starts with, “What’s your name?”

Amal, a young Muslim-American and native Coloradan, found a platform for her voice growing up working in her family's restaurant. She has been writing poetry since she was a child and has performed in eight countries, sharing her verse everywhere from youth prisons to orphanages to refugee camps.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

Danielle Guest look I’ve see you comment on. Almost every comment you still watched this video and YOU still think that every Muslim is a terrorist there’s nothing about being a Muslim we’re all humans after all we bleed red we do and you still want to deny the truth about being Muslim is peace I’ve went and lived in a Muslim Arabic speaking country and lived there for years and I’m not even Muslim if you go there and spend 1 day you’ll see act of kindness more than you expect in the country you are loving I would not like seeing people getting hurt and you probably hate seeing that too but if you live somewhere where being hurt and attacked is more than you expect than you’d be scared. Being Muslim is like a peaceful world though you might disagree with me I don’t honestly have to force you, you be you and wait for the judge mental day nothing could be more scary than that and trust me I’m not attacking you in the comments and trying to be like „IM GONNA FORCE YOU “ blah blah blah I’m saying that you should be scared if what you said cause a word that’s been said cannot be taken back there’s angels on your shoulders writing everything you do bad /wrong and what you do that is more than good I hope you have common sense now , take care.

I told you Islam gives us advices not orders. Islam definitely not advices ur claims. I live in Turkey and i live without oppression as a woman. Lies? This is my true life. Why would i lie 😀 In addition, we were talking about Islam not goverments. You can read Quran and see what the real Islam is by yourself. If you dont believe me then you can try it.

You are talking with someone else’s words. This is the most dangerous thing.

  11. Zigzagzigal sagt:

The worst countries to be born a female, are Islamic countries, especially when Shariah law is the constitution, so no, stop the lies, we all know that you live in a Western society, and you dont even bother for your sisters in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Mauritania, Egypt, Somalia and even Indonesia.

Islam means submission, and women have to submit to their husbands, Islam is patriarchal and misogynistic, Women are second class citizens, you are literraly half than a man.

If you want to live under shariah law, go live in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan, and stop lying about your backward cult

  12. guguk kuşu sagt:

You are doing the same thing you are not asking who we are just labeling as you want. When someone says Islam is beautiful you are using ur magical stereotype words immidiately. Why? You are not even asking how can you be so sure?

Islam means Peace. The true thing is this. Islam not orders just gives advice. The choice is yours. Islam just advices women to be not attractive so that people can just focus on their thoughts. I am also a woman, i will be dr and i walk alone, talk to men wear perfume and makeup but i pay attention for not being attractive so that they see me just as a person not as an object. Btw I have 3 brother and i am a med. student so i know how a man’s brain works.

I can agree she’s ‚great girl“ as a public speaker(you don’t know her privately so can’t say how she really is as a girl or Koran believer. I say her public speaker skills she using to misunderstanding people how to react for viewing Muslims women in public.I think this is right to keep attention of our safety, but she says there is no need of this because muslims are peaceful. In funny way she want to influence on our fear to stop it. look others religions has special clothes as well but no one is claiming how she is poor human been that people look at her in plane.

Hassam Suffee „Why you can never trust a Muslim“ – Muslims lie not because they are liars by nature but by choice. Systematic lying as a religious policy is deadly, and if our politicians do not understand this, thousands could die.
It seems our President and his advisors are clueless as to the desires, doctrines, and distinctives of Islam. While I feel a little audacious in giving advice to national leaders, it is necessary since no one else is doing it. Muslims lie not because they are liars by nature but by choice. Systematic lying as a religious policy is deadly, and if our politicians do not understand this, thousands could die.
Muslims lie when it is in their interest to do so and “Allah” will not hold them accountable for lying when it is beneficial to the cause of Islam. They can lie without any guilt or fear of accountability or retribution. A lie in the defense of Islam is approved even applauded in their “holy” books.
Muslims are permitted to lie: (1) to save their lives, (2) to reconcile a husband and wife, (3) to persuade a woman into a bedroom and (4) to facilitate one on his journey. Muslims are even permitted to disavow Islam and Mohammed if it is not a genuine heart-felt rejection. Muslims will tell you that concealment of a truth is not an abandonment of that truth if it benefits Islam.
Mohammed gave permission for a follower to lie in order to kill a Jewish poet who had offended Mohammed. I could provide many examples of permissible lying from the Qur’an and Hadith and will do so when my critics accuse me of hatred and bigotry because of this column. My motives are not important but the truth is. However, many unprincipled people do not consider truth important. It is political correctness that sits on the throne to be worshiped.
Muslims may appear very sincere; in fact, they are sincere, when they lie for their own protection or in the cause of Islam. They have permission to lie. Yes, Christians have also lied but never are they given permission to lie. However, a Muslim has no guilt since the Quran and Hadith permit his deception.
Muslims have no hope for eternal salvation without their good works, so they must keep working to advance Islam. If a few lies will accomplish that goal, then lying is not bad but good. If they can get good publicity for Islam by lying, then lying is acceptable, even desirable.
They will lie to make Islam more attractive to potential converts as they speak of “no compulsion in religion” while all of them know that verse was abrogated by later verses. They will quote verses that speak of tolerance and kindness knowing that those verses were written when Mohammed was desirous of “tolerance and kindness,” but when he climbed into the catbird seat, everything changed and he became a terrorist.
Muslims have no hope for eternal salvation without their good works, so they must keep working to advance Islam. If a few lies will accomplish that goal, then lying is not bad but good. If they can get good publicity for Islam by lying, then lying is acceptable, even desirable. The Muslim is earning his way to heaven by lying to a non-Muslim.

  27. Muslims who are born in a Muslim family have no choice to pick up another religion or telling their parents that they’re an atheist cause in very most cases they’ll not be longer seen as their children or in other countries which it would lead to execution. Plus muslims breed like rats

I know a lot of muslims growing up in Europe, and I must tell you that they are AWESOME, FUN, CONTRIBUTING AND NORMAL people like the best of us. You will never understand what you dont know and some might even be fearful of what they dont know, it is really the matter of knowing them. They are great people with good morals. We love you guys❤❤❤ Especially in these hard times where people are misled by the mainstream media. Most of us know the truth, we know 90% of muslims are innocent. Just like 90% of any other races.
