Josh Kaufman is the author of the #1 international bestseller, 'The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business', as well as the upcoming book 'The First 20 Hours: Mastering the Toughest Part of Learning Anything.' Josh specializes in teaching people from all walks of life how to master practical knowledge and skills. In his talk, he shares how having his first child inspired him to approach learning in a whole new way.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Thank you Josh Kaufman! Your talk has rekindled not just my love of learning but I feel braver to try to get past that awkward part of resistance. Again, thank you.

I totally agree! I’ve learned to be alpine ski instructor (no way even a little close to be the best instructor))) one week of practice 4 hours every day! And I can train anybody to be decent skier if have 20 hours of practice with that person))

Here is a little tip that might help in relation to the skill he talks about. It takes 16 repetitions to memorize something.

Yes! I have always believed contrary to popular belief that we are always as absorbent to new information and skills as infants as we are as adults. I learned AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) in 2 weeks! I was interpreting with accuracy shortly after. I taught myself piano without any tutor at 17. I understood etymology in linguistics in 2 languages when I was 10. I’ve always thought I am not intelligent, I’ve just wanted to learn.
